The West Winfield STAR, a weekly newspaper, has been been in circulation since 1886! Mary and Gene Doremus purchased the STAR in August 2015 from William Kwasniewski. Bill, who owned the STAR for 19 years, had purchased the STAR from Wallace Brown, who had owned it for 21 years. Wally merged the STAR and the Brookfield Courier on January 7, 1981.
Starting in 2017 the STAR began devoting one page to the Richfield Springs area. Tammy Graves is the Richfield correspondent ([email protected]). Coverage has now extended to include a Richfield Springs School News page approximately every other week during the school year. Jay Bernhardt, former owner of the Richfield Springs Mercury has graciously allowed us to use the Mercury name!
The STAR covers southern Herkimer & Oneida Counties and northern Madison & Otsego Counties, serving the communities of Bridgewater, Brookfield, Cassville, Cedar Lake, Cedarville, Clayville, Town of Columbia, East Winfield, Edmeston, Leonardsville, Town of Litchfield, Millers Mills, Town of Plainfield, Richfield Springs, Sauquoit, Unadilla Forks, West Edmeston and West Winfield.
